Who We Are

Rural Educational Activities for Development (READ) is working for the welfare of underprivileged women, children and youths in the field of Livelihood, Women empowerment, Education and Healthcare.

Most of the areas where we are working have acute poverty, lack of basic facilities, rampant unemployment where probably the only silver lining is the host of beautiful mountains! READ works mostly with the socially excluded communities like Dalits, Tribal and other marginalized of the society.

Our Approach

From very beginning, we, at READ

believe that development has to be holistic to break the vicious cycle of poverty to bring the real fruits to the needy. We wish to bring about visible change on the ground by focusing our energies in these sectors as well as building our understanding about related issues. We, at READ, firmly believe that a conducive and productive environment cannot be achieved unless all parameters of the development equation are adequately addressed

Despite India’s spectacular economic development, millions still have to go hungry; live in most unhygienic conditions, without even basic education for their children; and die of diseases that can be prevented. Women & girl children are the most vulnerable group in the society at present situation. What is needed is to build a strong civil society that should work in tandem with the government in making a difference in the lives of those who are in need.

— Our Mission

READ strives to fulfill its mission by empowering the marginalized communities, capacitating them to recognize and access their rights, building peoples collectives at local and larger levels, strengthening local leadership & local governance institutions for enabling participatory development, pro people policies and realization of rights, entitlements and justice working together with community leadership, likeminded organizations and relevant stakeholders.
